Aesthetic Procedures

Aesthetic medical procedures like Botox, Fillers and Lasers are also very popular with many patients.

Botox

Botox is the trade name for the commonest form of Botulinium Toxin, and is an injectable treatment for reducing fine lines, wrinkles and muscle size. There are many applications of Botox and every day, newer applications of Botox are being developed. The earliest applications of Botox in medicine were for treatment of twitching eyelids and squints. Interestingly it is thought that after Botox was injected into the eyes for reducing twitching eyelids, patients noticed that their wrinkles became less obvious. This may be how the cosmetic application of Botox was discovered! Today, Botox is being used to treat wrinkles, reduce fine lines, contour the face and even shape the brows and body.

Fillers

Also known as dermal fillers, injectable fillers and facial fillers, fillers are soft tissues-like materials that are injected under the skin and are an increasingly popular choice for many people who are looking for scarless, low risk, low downtime, low cost and fast ways to improve their looks, counter aging or reverse the signs of aging.

As the word implies, a filler is used to fill something. Hence, we use fillers on the body to fill up areas where we would like to have more volume. Since time immemorial, people have been injecting substances into their body in the hope of expanding the volume of body parts, ranging from the face to the breasts to the buttocks. Substances that have been injected in the past range from coconut oil to free silicon, and have been associated with many complications due to the nature of the substances and the techniques of injection. Thankfully, that is now just a part of ancient history. Today, filler technology has evolved tremendously and safe, natural substances have emerged that are biocompatible with the body and have very low complication rates. Filler injection techniques have also improved to the extent that skilled doctors can create extremely natural and dramatic results with fillers with minimal downtime.

Parts of the body that may be filled include areas affected by aging, such as deep nasolabial lines (laughter lines beside the nose), cheeks, and wrinkles. Want a higher nose or a sharper chin? Areas where the natural volume is deficient such as nose bridges, tips and chins etc can also be filled with immediate results. On the body, fillers may be used for breast enlargement, and even creating artificial six-packs on the abdominal muscles.

Lasers & Light treatments

Laser surgery for skin and various other parts of the body has evolved tremendously over time.

There are various types of lasers employed for skincare, from ablative to non-ablative lasers and used for various applications such as pigmentation, removing small tumors, removing blood vessels and spider veins and even for large birthmarks.

Lasers traditionally were associated with longer downtime, but present day lasers in their fourth or fifth generations are associated with very low downtime and very good safety profiles.

Today patients regularly go for laser treatments not just for curative purposes, but for regular facial rejuvenation to improve their skin and stay young.
